Is there a rule on how high off of finish grade in a pole barn you can mount a panel??? Customer built a pole barn, that will be used as a riding arena. Wants panel 10' above grade so if she leaves a horse "roaming" around in the barn unattended, it cannot bother anything...Will this pass inspection??? Barn is getting new service from POCO, so it will have to be inspected. Other than the service, the local AHJ dont care about farm stuff much...But since he will be there for service, obviously, he will see panel....what do you guys thinK????:-?

But there is a limit to how high the handle of a circuit breaker can be and that is 6'-7" max from the floor / ground.

Is there a tack room? That might be a better spot. Either that, or do an outdoor panel. Ten feet off the deck isn't really gonna fly, code wise. You can put the panel there, but it just won't be legal to put breakers in it. :smile:

we mounted a panel about 12 feet off hte ground once at a shipyard that was under the threat of flooding incase of a bad storm. the carpenter built a set of stairs leading up to it and a platform. maybe thats an option

it did pass because it was a 6x6 platform with rails and all that. its what the boat yard needed. it did look a little weird with all the telephone equipment and all the electrical stuff mounted that high
