had an inspector turn me down because I used a standerd knockuot seal(push penny) in a 200 amp nema three panel. The knockout I closed was one of the concentric ones at the bottom sides. My memory is that all entries below energized parts in a nema 3 enclosure do not have to be sealed. My NEC on CD took a dive and I am needing a code article on this one . Also where is the cheapest place to order a new CD.

I don't see a problem with the install.
They do make a knockout seal that has a gasket and screws in to make it watertight.

Thanks for the replies I will call the inspector first thing. He is a good sport when it comes to calling him on code issues, like all of us he continues to learn.

He is I started in this trade working for his dad way back when 1980. So I have known him for a year or two.

Two questions : Whats your re-inspection fee if any?

I know that your town is sudo isolated by its location, granted the work slow-down effected you as well, or has it?
Seems to me there's been a large influx of white collar job's and the odd assortment of Big Name Company's in your region and buffering ya'll like other regions that have a deverse amount of employers.

Matching or like construction keeps tumbling in my mind...
All opening are to be suffently closed is also in the mix.
As I recall a member here posted some UL statements on coins and stated that a coin will not be, to say, up to snuff in all cases.

Yes, Good, OK, Granted as most all things are rated in some way or another. I will admit that NEMA applications are not exactly at my fingers tips or in my mind as to when, where, why.

I just have to take care as an installer when I deal with a "NEMA" rated device. My thinking here will be I have to do a little more or something extra, or genrally have some higher level of "Pay Attention".
Frankly maybe just the four letter word starts the tumblers.

Ok to expand on the Thread/Question why a NEMA 3 verses a NEMA 1. Is this due to type of service and the type of conditions around this service point? I don't think that this is was clearly presented.

The OP's thought expressed what he beleived was the default of the inspection, he doesn't have a book handy and their CD went south.

Posted in the AM and possiably in a hurry? I don't know! But it reassuring to come here and post and run around all day and know someone might/will have said something!

I hope Meyer made as much money as colorado slim did, but then that not the point! :)

NEMA 1 is standard indoor environment NEMA 3R is wet location to simplify types. there are others

That would be up to you if you wanted to spend the money, but it's not necessary.

We are somewhat isolated as far as swings in the economy. Are main employer here is the DOD and NASA but we also have our fair share of manufacturing. International Diesel built a plant here and so did Toyota Motor manufacturing. What is keeping us going right now is the Governments Base Realignment And Closure Committee. We stand to get 25,000 government jobs here in the next 4 years.

Didn't think duct tape worked to well in Hawkeye country. Never the less go Hawkeyes beat Indiana!
