A situation took place here on our farm today which got me thinking. My oldest son is a snap-on dealer, he and his wife left home last night so he could be at a meeting this morning. Some time after 10:00PM some one stole the truck and around 2:00am this morning the fire dept was called to a woods fire which turned out to be the truck. All tho the truck and its contents were insured some one stole his business and his means of making a living. How many of you guys have insurance to cover your self if this happens to you? I know I have insurance on my trailer for this and it is not very expensive. How devastating would it be to your business and livelihood if you were riped off?

business interruption insurance is a MUST, but make sure you keep impeccible books, the insurance companies love to look for ways to get out of paying what you're due on this

I carry $1M for my vehicles.
Now that I have more than 1, it will not force closing the doors... but it will still hurt.

Man that's awfull...hope he, or someone had insurance.....
I priced insurance for the contents and tools in my van just three weeks ago....It was higher than the liability on my van for just 5k of coverage. I carry much more contents than 5k, but I figured 5k would get me back in business after a loss..........So Im thinking about an alarm system.....or AFLAC....

Once they had the contents why would they torch his truck...unless they had an axe to grind or are his competition.

No axes' no competition. How many finger prints or other evidence could be found in this mess?
I have been hit hard several times. What really sucks is when you have insurance only to find out you cant file a claim because you failed to maintain the correct paperwork.

i had a custom trailer i'd made from a knaack gangbox..... one night
the lock on the safety chain, and the lock on the hitch were cut, and
off it went..... without lights, no less... i had a danial woodhead cord
on the trailer and matching fitting on the van, so no lights or signals
working.... the total loss was $22,000, and as it wasn't possible to
prove it was hitched to the van (cut locks aren't good enough)
vehicle insurance did NOT cover it.
the padlocks were mul-t-lock's, and those are very difficult to bump
open... it can be done, but it's more likely they will cut around the
lock pockets with a cutting torch or grinder....
and i hope they did.... firmly taped above each lock pocket, where
you'd be likely to cut, was a #500 cadweld shot, and a box of 10
#500's on the floor of the box right underneath it. i did the same thing
on both lock pockets....
and there were a set of gas bottles for a torch laying on the floor of
the gang box next to them..... i believe they were almost full....
hopefully, he had the trailer still hooked to his new truck, backed
inside his attached garage when he decided to open the box...
