It's not that easy to explain in words but, there are some good illustrations in some of the links on this page (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=splicing+an+eye+in+rope&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=)

approx. three feet from the end of the rope, split the strands just enough to thread the end through. Pull it through approx two feet and repeat 4 or 5 times in 5-6 inch increments. Tape the extra back to itself and you can pull a dump truck with it.

I have woven the end of the rope in between the strands every couple of inches for about 14-18 inches and as preasure is put on the loopthe rope tightens on itself has worked great

You've been pulling on that eye splice for 15 years? Take a break, man. Your arms will get sore.

the lineman and cable man handbook explains how to put a eye splice in
every rope i own and have in my truck has a eye splice. i really hate seeing a rope without one.
ive learned how to do these eye splices when i was a boy scout and still use that and a few other knots such as the bowline for putting loops in those poly lines we blow in pipe
