Have a case where the second floor of a pre-fab home is now going to be finished. HO kept it unfinished due to budget. There is a 3" piece of PVC as a chase between basement and second floor - but plumber has already run his Hot/Cold plastic water line through it. Well guess what I want to do?

You got it - run the two Jacuzzi circuits and an extra 14/3 through it. There are already wires run up just above panel to feed the one 20A bathroom circuit and two 15A circuits for the bedrooms. But nothing for the Jacuzzi. Can these lines, per code, be run through the pipe chase - seeing the Hot/Cold wafer lines are sharing the same space?

I don't see anywhere in the code where you can't except that you may have to deal with ambient temp. Good luck on that--- I would probable not worry about it esp. if the hot water lines are insulated. The pipes won't be hot for extended periods of time either.

I agree with Dennis although I know of at least one inspector on this site who I think would say it is a violation as the PVC is not a raceway even though you are running cables.

I don't think it's any different than running through a very small wall cavity. I also don't see any danger in it.

i dont think hes using it as a raceway hes just using it as a chase. i dont think there is any violation with using electrical material as a chase for other trades including our trade. its just the same as running wire and stuff up the side of the chimney. now if pvc entered a box then it would be a raceway

You may also need to bush the end of the pvc.

I agree too. The PVC is simply a chase to get from point A to point B, if you were running THHN through it there would be a problem.
