we don't use much NM-B, but I know that they are coming out with all types of special cables (12-2-2, etc)....

here is the question, have they come out with a 12/2 romex with 2 grounds? and insulated and a bare in the same outer sheathing?

and would this be legal for the patient care area in a dentists office?

no, i haven't look it up...just thinking...thanks

(A) Wiring Methods. All branch circuits serving patient care areas shall be provided with an effective ground-fault current path by installation in a metal raceway system, or a cable having a metallic armor or sheath assembly. The metal raceway system, or metallic cable armor, or sheath assembly shall itself qualify as an equipment grounding conductor in accordance with 250.118.

Not silly at all. We're all ignorant..... just in different areas.;)

thanks...told you it was a silly question...

I have been on a CS Lewis kick lately, so here you go...

"Can a mortal ask questions which God finds unanswerable? Quite easily, I should think. All nonsense questions are unanswerable. "

All kidding aside, it is amazing how many different products I have learned of since perusing around here, so it is never a silly question to ask of such things.

A 12-2 with two grounds could be used for isolated ground circuits.

dumber question wouldnt 12-2 with an inuslated and bare ground be 12-3 with one of the wires green instead of red - and if so wouldnt a roll of green tape fix that ?

I think the 12-2-2 is actually 2 hots, two neutrals and a bare ground. :D

Brought about because of those PITA AFCI's.

with a plastic box, 12-2 with 1 ground could be used for an IG circuit

How would you keep them (being bare and all) from each other when you screw the recep into the box?

actually, no.

can God's answer to an unanswerable question be in a form
that a mortal is unwilling to accept?

here we go.........:D

the only thing we use 12-2-2 for here is heater/vent/light switch legs - what do you mean that this came about for AFCI's ?

You can't use 12/3 or 14/3 for two AFCId circuits. So 14-2-2 and 12-2-2 were developed.

i guess i dont follow - AFCI's are mostly only put in for inspection 'round here and promply pulled out - so you guys pull two homerun circuts on a 12-2-2 (its even refered to as 12/4 here) and j-box when you get where your going??

dont confuse 12-2-2 with 12-4 12-2-2 has two grounded conductors where 12-4 is red white black and blue I belive

thanks that is clearly what i have been doing - the 12-2-2 is black, red, white, candy stripe white, and bare - 12-4 would be black, red, blue, and white - i thought they were the same thing :-?

I am not sure I follow that logic :-?, aside from the liability thing wouldn't the task of doing so not quite outweigh the savings in the end?
