I don't like working Saturday but it seemed like a good idea to do this when no one was around.

I only had one guy helping me so there wasn't many opportunities to take pics or video.

I dug up and pulled the bases out last week.

I dug the holes 36" diameter and backfilled with pea gravel for compaction.

For some reason the bases spun apund like crazy. I don't know if it was operator error or just a twisty cable. This is REALLY poor video. Sorry. Like I said, I had to shoot quick and run to the hole to guide them in.

I don't know if it was worth it. I recycled 30,000 pounds of concrete but it was a struggle to get them in place because the underground portion was so ragged. 5 bases total, I got there at 8AM and left at 3PM. Crane time was 3 hours on the job, 4 hour minimum on Sat @ 120 per hour.

How much did that rig cost to rent?

glad to see it work out - now for the hard part did you save a nickel or not - i agree reusing the post is a good idea as long as it did not cost you more

The final figures aren't in yet but I know I spent $500 for the crane, $100 on the pea gravel.

I saved $600 on concrete and $750 on cages, bolts and sonotube (cost)

I also saved an unknown amount for hauling away the bases and dump fees. That had to have been at least $1000

Labor is the same so it looks like just over 2K.

Was it worth it? Yesterday, when I was fighting with the damn things, I would have said no. The big problem was the ugly, uneven bases. I had a lot of trouble getting the stabilized in a plumb position. A precast base of exact dimensions would have been much easier.

Will I do it again? Maybe.

If I ever have to relocate just one or two, I would reuse them. Logistically it would make sense.

Looks like a good idea. I would use 3/4 rock though, have had pea gravel not lock down.
