We are doing a remodel that was a Patient Choice clinic. The new owners business is the same. When the walls were opened up, all wiring is NM cable, even in the exam rooms. We are bringing the exam rooms up to code, but my question is does the structured cabling need to be in metal conduit within the walls of the exam rooms? I guess 517.80 is to vague for me.

Good question, have you looked into NFPA 99. That is of course if your juristiction has adopted it. Maybe this will provide some insight.
