I was walking through an appliance store recently and saw that Monster Cable is now producing dryer and range power cords. http://www.monstercable.com/power/appliance.asp
"Built differently from other electric range cords, PowerRange 300 and 400 features include the exclusive PowerFlow™ indicator light for continuous line status monitoring, large gauge high-purity copper conductors, heavy duty Duraflex® jacket, high strength metal strain relief, and 24k gold connections."
And... they're only $40 each!!! I don't know how I've gotten along without them.
They even have a surge suppressor for your air conditioner...

It kills me to think that there is a range cable with an indicating light on it to tell you if there is power there or not at any moment.
WHO LOOKS UNDER THEIR RANGE FOR FUN!!!?!
In the present age of energy conservation the last thing we need is a light on our range or dryer cord to tell us that there is power there.
As far as high def goes- What I have been led to believe is that high def - because it is a digital signal - can actually run through some pretty bad components and wires because it's not warped because of interference like regular broadcast signals are. you can't warp 1's and 0's.

cause static cling and pilling of your angora work clothes.

I agree completely. It's just a great marketing scam where everyone from the manufacturer down to the seller makes large profits. The real loser is the end user who gets suckered into buying expensive stuff that they don't need.

when 'pooters talk to each other, or even to themselves, at the machine
language level, there is a checksum, which is one piece of hardware saying
"can you hear me now", and another part of the system saying 'uh huh".
if it's a crummy connection, then it takes longer to communicate, same as
it would standing at an airport with a jet taking off. that's all CRC errors
are (cyclical redundancy check).
but there's a passel of money to be made in selling stuff lovingly crafted
from pure unobtainium. monster cable is just the beginning of a very slippery
hi definition slope.... i've seen speaker cables 12' long, that retail for $1,800
a pair...... and require a 100 mhz o-scope to properly tweak and balance
the capacitive reactance... blah, blah, blah.....
and during the second world war, the british did some groundbreaking
research on human perception of sound, in conjunction with sonar and
submarine warfare, that is still valid today.
the ears of the average 20 year old sonarman, (the best of the best
in hearing acuity) cannot tell less than five percent total harmonic
distortion. five percent. not five hundreths of a percent. five percent.
it's all just snobbery, the audiophile thingie...... don't tell nobody, but i
had a friend who's a serious audiophile tweak my car stereo for me, to
get that last bit of perfection.... :D and after he was all done, and blessed
and annoited the system, after a few days, something didn't sound right.
turns out he had rotated the whole sound stage 90 degrees, (left front
became right front, right front became right rear, etc.) and he never even
noticed it. this man has over $50k invested in home stereo equipment.
i switched it back, and never said a word.... :D ... now, the lead guitar
is back in the correct corner of the van.... what a relief. whew. that
fuzzed out schreecherk is right where i expected it to be.....

I have nothing but praises for this Wattgate Socket.
I did not install it in the wall as most probably do, but laid it out on the floor so I and my friends could admire its gold plating. I do not have children but my Miniature Schnauzer seems awfully scared by its wonderous beauty. He will not go near it, and that is good.
I once dropped a piece of tinfoil on it and its emissions lit up the room. The energy it released was such a powerful, spiritual event! I have tried several times since and have yet to observe the event with the same intensity.
Such a performer, this Wattgate!

I have a fine tuned tube amp. based system. My Ac cords already incorporate Wattgate plugs. I used this one to replace the Hospital grade one I was using in the wall. This new plug truly redefined the experience from listening my sound system. I get more deeper base and also additional details in the overall spectrum.

My friend has this. He says it is true what they say aobut it. It doesn't get hot to the touch. It's not a fire hazard. It does not dry the air out. I don't think that they claim to put out more heat, just a better quality heat and heat the room up more evenly instead of being more hot near the heater than accross the room.

As heard on the Paul Harvey Radio Show and television features across the nation. The EdenPure TM is a remarkable new advanced portable heater can cut your heating bill up to 50% and pay for itself in a matter of weeks!
There is no way an electric heater will cut your heating costs by 50% unless you only heat the room that this unit is in

There have numerous capacitance studies done to show that monster cables are no better than the majority of any other decent quality cables out there. You could probably find them online by googling "monster cable capacitance test" or something similar.
Electrical person,
I also have some of the monster bass cables that I use but it is purely for the lifetime warranty, it does not matter what happens to the cable, if it is ruined all you gotta do is go to a dealer and they take the old one and hand you a new one no questions asked, I have done this at least 5 times in the last 10 years. Makes you wonder how much money they are making on us eh???
EP, If you are interested in making your own instrument cables check out Canare GS-6 cable and Neutrik jacks. You can get 100ft. of cable for under a hundred bucks and if you are good at soldering you will have plenty of cables that absolutely crush monster in terms of quality & fidelity.

I lived in a home made tree fort in a coconut grove by the beach at Rincon Puerto Rico from September 1974- June 1974. No electricity. Just surfing, catching fish and lobster and dining on coconuts. But then again I was 17 years old, fresh out of high school. At that age it didn't seem so rough at all, mater of fact it was a great time. Too bad things like that can't go on forever. Matt, where do you find unbiased info on such equipment?
Truthfully without a lot of expensive testing gear how do we know if it really does what it is supposed to or it is just a box with some stuff in it?
I can entirely understand why you would want to protect your gear, perhaps the best way is a contactor that disconnects the equipment when your not using it?

After reading your link I did some Googling, swell company.

Thanks for the good links. I can't believe these bullies. Ticks me off to no end. I can gladly say I've never once purchased an overpriced, overhyped monster cable product. And I obviously never will!
On another note...I was thinking of starting my own electrical company. I was going to call it Monster Electrical Services. :) <--Joke. I guess I'd better think of a different name unless I'm willing to fight the big battle like the MonsterMiniGolf people are. Good luck to them, and I hope they can bring these bullies back down to Earth.

At the time I was looking to purchase a new conditioner, I had the oppertunity to have a furman and monster side by side and pull the covers off. the specs read better, the parts looked better and all over the build quality of the monster just beat the competition. Having 1 audio source go through switchers, audio processors then out to 4 amps can cause a lot of hum. The monster killed all hum with the whole setup, The furman did not. The only thing I couldnt do was put an O-scope on the output and see how really clean the power was.
Ill post a pic of the inside later on- when I find it.

mac,
When is the last time you were in Rincon? It has been on my list of places to go surf for 10 years and I think this year may be the one. I have been told it is a great place to go, just not on weekends because of the localism, a friend of mine showed me pictures of Tres Palmas from last winter, it was huuuuuge. Some great surf there.
Check your P.M. I have hijacked this thread enough allready.

I don't care how much they pulled the wool over your eyes, I would never buy from them knowing what I know now from how they bully small businesses into forfeiting their rights and names.

let's quit fooling around and go to maximum extreme silliness....
gentlemen, i have for your viewing pleasure, a cable designed to interconnect
your checking account to the manufacturer's checking account.
it may have audio or electronic properties as well.
this is a cord to connect surplus money to a needy corporation.
it is the best there is. actually, it is ONE speaker cable. it is $30,995.00
$62,980.00 a pair.

this is a 2 meter power cord. it is the best there is.
it is $1,995.00

guess i missed that one... who would have thought they would
go above the $30,000 per cable ceiling established by wal mart?
see, with just a little research, absurd can be shown to be increased
by 43 percent. i wonder if it sounds 43 percent better than the
$30,000 cable......

Im not trying to sell their product... Heck, My opinion of them as a company has changed since I bout that piece of equipment - roughly a year and a half ago. I was just stating facts about a product of theirs that I own.

If you really believe that Monster cables make for better sound, then here is a link for a blind test against an ordinary coat hanger. (http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/03/audiophiles-cant-tell-the-difference-between-monster-cable-and/)
Guess what? The snotty audiophiles could not tell the difference!
I think EVERYTHING monster cable sells is a high priced scam.Agreeded!! These guys at Monster Cable prove PT Barnum right every day.

It's the past tense of 'agreed'.

I would use any of their products for Audio/Visual, but range and dryer cords seem a little odd. Maybe people think their clothes will dry faster?
The Audio/Video gear is top quality, most definitley not a scam.

About 6 months ago I took an A/V class and there was a rep from one a cable manufacturer (for the life of me I can't think of which one, General Cable maybe?) and the topic of speaker cables came up. Basically he said that the whole overpriced speaker cable is a sham and everyone knows it, but if people are willing to spend money on it they are willing to keep providing it. Aren't there many discussions on this board about maximizing profit? If someone wants a $300 receptacle from me I will provide and install it with a smile.:D
He also said that HDMI was bunk, that component A/V cables still gave the best results. I have not researched that one myself but considering the source (ie someone who will make money on the sale of HDMI cables) I feel that the statement has merit.

It might not be a full blown scam, in that you are getting what they claim to be selling, ie. gold plated this and that and yada yada yada, but it's definitely not doing anything better for your ears. It's not improving the sound quality enough for the human ear to detect it IMO. Maybe computers and monitors and the like can detect the "improved" acoustics, but I don't buy into that mumbo jumbo. Especially after reding the experiment where people couldn't tell the difference between monster cables and coat hanger wire, when music was played through both as speaker cable. :)

OK, These little smiley face icons are just not playing nice. Everytime I go to use one it ends up way up there instead of here.
The megger statement was just a joke.

Use the ones on the right hand side of the screen when you want the smiley in the post.
Use the ones on the bottom when you want the smiley next to the topic.

I, for one, certainly agree with it. I have only component cabling for my AV system (except for the non-component-equipped sources, of course.) There are hidden flags and signals in digital bitstreams that can control resolution and other aspects.
My pre/pro switches component signals, up-converts composite and S-video singals to component, and outputs to the transcoder that converts the component video to RGB/HV for my CRT projector. Component video is as hi-def as any digital video.
I installed a cable & power receptacle behind a new 52" high def flatscreen.
It simply went down a few feet and came back out to keep the cables off the wall.
Well the owner pointed out that there were streaks in the picture. He fed his sat converer with a 25 ft. Walmart co-ax cable. I replaced it with a length of 1Ghz RG-6 co-ax from HD. Everything cleared up, I chopped up his extension and I learned something about bandpass.
One question I do have for Larry is; does a single garden variety co-ax connector have a lot of affect on signal quality or can I continue to cheap out on wall outlets?

For plain ol' cable TV, the cheap crimp connectors (Ideal at HD, right?) are adequate, but for satellite and hi-def cable (and cable internet), I heartily recommend a good compression-type of connector.
You already know that the cable itself matters. Connector quality does, too, but proper connector installation is even more important. Even shield strands hanging outside the connector can cause problems.
To mention: it is unusual in my experience to see the RG6 run directly to the TV in a home-theater installation. There's usually a cable or satellite tuner, and AV cabling from there on; the TV is only a monitor.

Thanks in advance Larry. Do you mean the HD style connectors if made up properly (die crimper) wouldn't insert too much loss or do you advocate the high dollar kind rated in the Ghz?
