I need to buy a new megger and i was curious what the forum members
use/prefer. Looking for a decent inexpensive (i don't mean cheap) model.
Any recommendations or advice is greatly appreciated.

This has been discussed here before, maybe search for the thread. It depends on what you need to test. Do you do any MV work? Do you test inductive equipment? How many things will you test in a day?

I own 5 different meggers, used to have more, different models for different needs.

Mostly resi install, because of all the AFCI in 08 and small motors 1hp or less. We have a nice one at the shop, but i am tired of having to fetch it for small stuff. i figure i will just buy my own. i use it about 3 or 4 times a week.

This one is inexpensive, quick, and easy to use.

For this type of useage, I own (and like) the Fluke Mod. 1587. Good for resi, commercial and light ind. Nice general purpose tool.

I've edited twice and for some reason the thread doesn't want to show the link in it's entirety. The Fluke website & Model # should get you there, though.

I'll chime in and add that I recently acquired my first megger, a Fluke 1507 (http://us.fluke.com/usen/products/Fluke+1507+1503.htm?catalog_name=FlukeUnitedStates&category=HMA(FlukeProducts)). Haven't used it near as much as I've toyed around with it during the evening hours.

thanks to all others also, the fluke models are nice, however i already have two fluke meters that have all those extra multimeter functions. i'll propably go for zogs suguestion and save the 100 bucks. the flukes would be great if i was just starting out or i had the money for an all in one ,however times are tight and i need to be conservative until i win the lottery. :)

you can get them on Ebay for less than that, many people buy these and figure out later they need data storage or higher test voltages. AEMC makes one just like it for about the same price also, I think they are a little more durable but Megger has better support if you need it.

i think this is fine. i only work on 277/480 or less. we already keep data logs for all our buildings (i work at a college). i like the support help option. i will try the amazon suguestion. thanks again.

The hell I don't. As confusing as it looks to me it's even worse when I whip it out in front of a customer. Wha?? I just make it look like I am using it for something and then they feel like they are paying for a wicked smart guy. ;)
