View Full Version : Parallel conductors to a 200 amp breaker.

A customer is putting in a manufactured home 500' from the transformer. The meter location that they currently have is about 175' from the transformer fed with overhead wires. The power company handbook states for voltage drop, this application would require parallel 4/0's. the service will be a 200 amp service. on the home end since the load center comes installed I guess my best bet is to bring the parallel conductors into a j box then tap down to a single 4/0 entering the load center. This would look pretty ugly doing the same thing on the meter pedestal/pole. The customer does not want the power company to set a new pole with a transformer closer to the home. So my real question is what is the best way to terminate parallel 4/0's onto a 200 amp meter/main?.

What make and model? Double barrel lugs is my first choice, but may be tight in some combos.

Well thats my question, lugs will not fit into a breaker hole, so how do you terminate 2 parallel wires into 1 breaker hole? Most times Milbank is the make. The 200 amp meter disco has not been purchased yet. (existing is 100 amp).

Won't you hit the meter base side first? Double lug there then a factory buss feeds your main?

The meter base is fed from the power company. I have to run parallel feeds from the breaker on the pole to the load center in the home 275'. I've never seen a breaker that good be lugged onto on the load side. I'm going load side of the meter main to the load center in the home.

I see, I reread your OP. How about a handhole near the home with Polaris Blue?

Well there is a idea I hadn't thought of! Thanks

Well, I figured after wasting your time with my first two post, I should come up with something that made sense.:smile:

If, as you have mentioned that the enclosure has not been purchased, you can order the setup with the proper lugs from the manufacturer. This way there is no extra work necessary.

or a add a small jbox where you can transition from smaller wires to larger ones.
