I didn't know I needed these untill today. I need to strip the jacket from a floor warming mat and the repair kit list a thermal wire stripper, anybody have an idea on how to strip the cable with out one

dont know how well it would work for your app, but I have done this in the past:

take needle nose pliers with smooth jaws, harborfreight has them for $1.99 or something.

heat pliers with torch until theyre HOT

quickly pinch wire and pull it out

whats the purpose of using a thermal stripper? no nicks in the conductor?

That would be my guess, I am trying to find and repair a damaged heat mat and the splice kit instructions recommend a thermal sripper.

i googled thermal strippers and the ones ive seen were over 300 bucks. i think wiregurus method would be better if your just doing a quick repair job

I wonder if a hot glue gun would work. I have done it with a knife but it is next to impossible --- I was not proud of the job either.
