you just have to love this fine example that i brought for show and tell.
bad ballast, shut off both ballasts, and then find the mystery guest.... a
separate circuit using the ballast compartment as a raceway.
#12 in, #12 out, at the other end of the fixture, so having #12 running the
length of the fixture would look pretty obvious, so they employed stealth
technology, and used a couple #18 fixture wires, and wagos to hide the
feed thru. 12 to 18 and back to 12.
fixture was 277, mystery circuit was 110. all the neutrals were under the
same wirenut, probably to dampen harmonic thrust of the oscillator... :D
hack, hack, ptui!
have to go back in the morning to remove offending circuit, and make sure
interrupting it won't shut off their file server or something. it probably will.;)

i hate it when they say you cant shut off this certain piece of office equipment such as a printer or computers. if its shut off the world will end. guess they would rather have a dead electrician.
i work in an office that has a few guys that think they are so much better than us. always walks by and says something to make fun of the dummy that plays with wires and light bulbs

I apologize for not taping the wirenuts on this one, but did you really have to post it on the forum? Im still learning, i guess I should have used a piece of romex to jumper the circuits to protect the wires from the heat of the bulbs.

mystery circuit was 110.
Well, the it was clearly an amateur job because only amateurs install 110 volt circuits. :D :D
12 to 18 and back to 12.
I'm surprised they didn't make up for it by parelleling the 18's...

Appreciate it if you didnt take credit for my work and the #18 was not to hide anything I just ran out of wire. Is #18 not sufficient for 20 amps?

Depends on the voltage.

run your 20 amp 120v circuit through a few feet of #18 and you get 110 volts.

I noticed an exit light in close proximity could this be the continuos HOT for the night Lts and exits?

if you would go ahead and add wiring for a "emergency ballast" you could probably have a really full house.

ok, i admit it. i was working on a friend's ghetto dumpster rental. no 14/3. stripped some #12 red insulation & slid in on a ground for a dead-end 3-way...
there, i said it...no permits,,, no worries mate...

that is pretty hack if i do say so myself. i done some hack things my self but never used the ground as a CCC

Maybe we can get together and do some really serious hacking! 8-)

Never installed a 3 wire range or dryer recep? :D
Never installed a 2 wire SE feed to a panel (midwest/east coast)?
The only difference is that these are approved ;)

come on give me a break you know what i mean. :D i never used the bare wire in romex as a CCC
i have hooked up 3 wire dryer and range receptacles but only as replacements and never new

i admit to hacking in a 2 gang bubble cover to fit over a 50 amp 4 wire receptacle for a RV plug. , using romex connectors for MC, putting MC connectors in plastic boxes by drilling a hole in the side (didnt even use a bonding bushing to ground the jacket) i have flying splices in my basement that i installed, 3/4 inch greenfield ran over drop celing with no support same with romex, i ran a set of travelers and a common wire through pvc out to the shed with no EGC (i was new at this trade)
i hacked in my share of things and not afraid to admit it. mostly hacked in things at my own house :)

I've hooked up plenty of 3 wire dryer and range outlets on new installations. It was a few years ago though. They weren't making the 4 wire outlets at the time. I did "bond down" a pilot light once. I think it was in '89.
