I need to get a van for the business, when i started the business i bought and old ford explorer took the seats out put ladder racks on it. The vehicle is on its last leg it needs to much work to save it. I was wondering do you guys think it is a good time to buy new or find a good use van. What do you guys recommend ford or chevy.

Me...I'm a Chevy Guy....but IMO there all good when there new!8-)

As far as new or used.....this economy tells me to use caution when making a good sized purchase like this one. I would go with what I could afford, for sure, if I was you.

I won't recommend anything specific as the Ford/Chevy argument is as productive as ground up/ground down.

I, too, am in the market for a new vehicle, but I haven't seen prices go down one bit, regardless of what the economy has done.

Since you're 'in business', hopefully you've added enough in your past projects to save a little up in order to purchase something. Or am I wrong?

Find the dealer in your area that specializes in off lease fleet vehicles, you might be able to find a well maintained van with under 100k that is already equipped with racks and bins.

I snagged an '03 Chevy 2500 with 85k, all service records, racks and bins for $7300 last year. Van has already payed for itself, now if only I could make some money.....

When I was working by myself, I NEVER bought new vehicles. I have always been enough of a mechanic to recognize a decent vehicle. I'd buy them cheap, drive them a couple years and sell them for close to what I paid.

Now that I have guys working for me, I am more concerned with down time so I use new vehicles. If a truck is down, it will cost real money.

Got our 97 chevy astro about 9 years ago. already gutted and fitted with steel gaurds on windows w/ a roof rack and the little mans door to the front. it runs excellent and is paid and depreciated on taxes. The new work truck feels good when your working long and hard everyday. but driving debt free feels even better.

Check out the used vans available out there. It took some looking but I just bought a 2007 Ford E250 with 9300 miles for 13k. Leftover 08's were 22k and new 09's were 26k.

I would also contact your accountant, they generally have very good advice as to how you stand financially and what is good business sense.
