Hi what is the usual time frame for a return answer for a RFI?

It depends on a few things.
Did it go directly to the person that can answer it, or to a contractor that would have to forward it?
Is it just a clairification or does it need engineering?
Will the answer have a cost impact, or will it affect the job schedule?
I have seen RFIs take between one day and three months to get answered.

Depends on the person answering it and the complexity of the problem. Often the contract will provide some time constraints. I am currently waiting on one from 28 days ago and I just got one back from Monday.

Went directly to the person who would answer it.
It will have impact on cost.
It is bit time sensitive as there could be at least 2-3 week lead time for materials. It takes less than a day to install and we will have the time to take care of it as long as nothing else crops up. You just never know how long it will take and I have a feeling they will not care that there is a lead time for the material. We could be finished less this component and it could hold the job up. I get the feeling they just want to stress the subs.

If it's time sensitive, it's always best to pickup the phone and call after you send the RFI.
Some architects/engineers won't answer at all if it's within 7 days of the deadline.
