View Full Version : Excepting credit cards

I used to use a credit card machine from a company that leased me a terminal for $80 a month PLUS they charged 2% for each transaction. 2% may not seem like much but on a $3000 charge that is $60. The 2% charge was in the small print of the 6 page contract I signed with this company. There has to be a cheaper way to except credit cards. Anybody know of any?

2% sound average for running through as credit on visa/m.c.
American express will be alot higher.
Running it through as debit should be less.
Check with your Merchant Account Representative.

The more business you give them the less it costs. Also, if you swipe the card you pay less than if you just get the card number. In our business swiping the card usually is not an option since you go to the customer, they don't come to your place of business (where the CC terminal is) with their card. (Unless you have one hooked up to a cell phone!)

This is why we don't take credit cards- costs too much.

We do our credit cards online and i thought the cost was 1.5%.

I consider this a benefit as we get the money NOW instead of 90-120 days. Most of our credit card customers are Government.
