Installing "hats" for recessed lights that are clearly shown with insulation around and above the fixture(have heat sensor and marked ICT)
For 2, I must cut hole in attic floor for access.
May I replace the wood above above the insulation (16 X 16) with 4 screws (1 in each corner) for occupant step space or must only insulation by above the fixture?

Thanks, Tim S.

Access is normally available from the living space, remove trim, drop can and should be able to open cover for access. All i have ever seen have 2 removeable covers.

These are new work kits I bought. The cans have sliding brackets that adjust from 12 to about 24 inches to mount.
In 2 places there is existing flooring (particle board) that I have cut through for access to mount can brackets.
Cans are insulation contact approved. Would that include replacing the wood about 2 inches above the insulation to replace the walking surface?
