The power company has a 4200 volt line running directly over my home (12 feet above roof) to a pole with a transformer which is 12 feet from the side of my house. They want to replace the pole and add an upgraded transformer. What does the code say regarding a 4200 volt line over a residential home? Naturally the do not want to move the pole across the road where there are no homes or buildings. Do I have any recourse? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

this is really not a technical issue. some people believe the em fields that exist around electrical wires are harmful, others do not.
the evidence is not clear that they are harmful, or for that matter not harmful. there is just not enough conclusive evidence of potential harm that would require them to move the lines.
normally, however, such lines are run on an easement that would not have a structure under it.
since they are planning on doing some work anyway, if you bug the right people (and I don't know who those people might be) maybe they would move the pole for you. but I would not hold my breath.
do you have some particular consern about this situation?
