3/4" "T" conduit body used as "J&quo

While performing some maintenance in a class 1 div 1 area, repairing light fixtures, I noticed that the fixtures are hung using a 3/4" T's (explosionproof)and was also being used as a j box. This work was probably done sometime in the 80's. Was this acceptable back then? I would think not. I am looking at art 314.16C(2) it was a real pain tryin to get the joints exposed to disconnect the fixture.

There is no general prohibition against what you described.

Depending on how far back you, go the general volume calcs have changed a bit. Mostly for marking. What you have described may have been a violation at the time of original installation; but we would need to know both when they were installed and what the fittings and fill actually were.

That does lead to the somewhat philosophical question that, if something is installed in violation but has no inherent safety problem in service,(i.e., "imminent danger") does it need to be corrected?
