GC questioned closet lighting - specifically a closet that is greater than 40" deep - is a switched light required? It is a hallway closet - will likely be used as a linen closet

It is not mandatory to install a luminaire in a clothes closet; if one is installed, however, the conditions for installation are as required by 410.8(D).

There is no requirement for a light in a closet in the NEC. Might be a local code however.

I agree with Celtic and Trevor. Might even be a building code, but I'd doubt it.
