Does anyone have a rule of thumb as far as charging for trenching?(Other than not wanting to do it). I have searched past posts and have seen a few numbers from $4 to $10 a foot. I understand site conditions will impact this, but I am curious about a trench with no trees around and no marked utilities. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

I would do it by the hour, whatever you charge per hour plus rental fees (including pickup and return) if you are renting a trencher. If they have rocks and you charge a set fee per foot and there is a rock as big as your truck then you lose your #$%^ !

I don't charge anything because I don't do it. I've done a few underground jobs in the last couple of months (plus one scheduled for next week), and in each case I told the HO what kind of trench to dig. Sometimes they did it themselves and sometimes they hired it out.
It's just not cost-effective for me to do it, plus I really don't want to.
