We are remodeling an existing building which has a 400a ats protected by a normal power 400a cb and a 400a cb on the gen set.
there are 4 disc switches tapped directly off the load side of the transfer switch . They are (3) 100a and (1) 200a switches.
Can the switch ampacity totals exceed the ats amp rating?
Thankyou for any help.

Shouldn't be a problem, proper tapping aside, since both sources to the ATS effectively limit the current it might see.

We just finished a similar install. Just follow the tap rules and you should be ok.

Edit to add: Assuming you've done a load test and/or calculation on total draw, there could be a number of reasons for the total and size of sub-panels.

How are all these taps made?
Do you have 4 barrel lugs in the transfer switch?
Just curious.

The disc switches are tapped from multiple barrel lugs on the ats
