Hey everyone. I am looking to replace a old Bullbog pushmatic 200amp panel with a new SquareD panel. I am installing ground rods also. Im only replacing SE cable from meter to panel (about 5 feet). Mostly all breaker spaces (40) will be used. What is a good price. My quote is looking like around $1000-$1200. Am I even in the game? Im new to the residential field ( just got my business permit). Thanks in advance.

What kind of shape is the drop in?
Will the POCO allow the existing meter pan?
Who is the POCO?
Right now...I say your not even close.

I would change the meter pan and the drop and charge accordingly. Reusing the old pan and conductors IMO is a bad idea. And as Celtic pointed out the POCO may want the meter pan upgraded as well. Depending on many variables your price for a complete new service should begin at about $2K.

price the complete service out, your total labor and material, My bet is you will come close to $2400 just to break even. that is you are in business, and have all the expenses and overhead.

Dont forget All new 40 count em sq D breakers. Permit costs and the time to go down and file them. Is a bypass meter required now?? What was the quote on the SE cable? Try to sell the new service and 2500-3000 sound more in the game for 40 ckts w all new breakers and a new drop Depending on zipcode.

Don't sell yourself short.
Strip it down, put up new.
Get the price your worth.

Thanks for the info. The job is for my wifes cousin, and I'm cutting him a break since it is my first "real" residential service on my own. I am learning the ropes on quoting and I just wanted to be close for family. I should have mentioned that. My next service will be around 2000-2500. I am quoting one this week. Thanks again for not killing me.

No reason to kill you, yet. A word of advice - confine any future "discounts" to immediate family - these are people you break bread with, and on a somewhat regular basis. IMHO your "father's uncle's cousin's brother's ex-college roomate" doesn't qualify.

Are you in business, or it it a hobby for you?
What world are you in, $30 would just cover the bare pay, with fed taxes, how about the workers comp employers share of liabilties.
Then add to that another $40 an hour for overhead, and profit.

In the previous poster's defense: I have not added overhead and profit
My initial thought is: WAY TOO LOW...
But we have no idea where he is located AND the OP is doing this job pro-bono here :D

The biggest toy a man can have is his own business.
residential rate =15.38
FICA 7.65% = 1.177
St /fed unemployment6.8% = 1.046
work comp 11% = 1.692
--------
total 19.295
I do not pull my cost out of thin air and I operate a profitable business

Check with AHJ and utility to see if meter can has to be changed. Sounds too cheap to me.
