I make it a point to put my sticker over any and all other EC's stickers...plus ONE.

Yeah. I have a handful of magnets with the company logo and phone #, and I put them on the panel.... when I think of it.....

I wrestled with the idea of leaving a sticker in the panel for some time. I've seen too many panels with stickers of the original contractor but it's clear a DIY'er or previous homeowner had a hand in things after the original install. Guess who the home/business owner is quick to blame.

The inspectors in our area normally leave the contractors name on the tag with the number of circuits installed/inspected which I think is a good thing, if you can read faded ink.

We leave them on new work. Sometimes the existing work is so shoddy I wouldn't want someone to assume that we did it.

As in representation to my services? No way! Circuit designation? My labeler is far superior than my chicken scratch
But company affiliation? Nope, no way.

I much prefer leaving a handful of business cards and a magnetic sign for the fridge instead.

It was a joke. Of course my name is on it and probably they could easily find out who wired the place. I am not at all woried about a lawsuit. I trust what I do but I don't put stickers on either.

Yes, stickers are cheap advertising. I don't worry that people will think that the shoddy work was mine because there are normally a half dozen stickers on the panel. It can take years for a sticker to work but until someone ( Celtic) covers it, it's there. I have covered a few stickers in my time to. Business cards and magnets don't last that long and normally get tossed.

Why wouldn't you want a sticker? Most people start to worry who to call when they have an electrical problem and there is your number right in front of them. If it looks old so much the better, at least they will know you have been around for a few years if it looks new they may think it's still under warranty.

I voted never because future work might make me look bad.

Case in point. This mess has a "mr Electric" sticker on it.

I have seen stickers on some NASTY stuff. I would HATE to see my sticker show up here some day after who knows who has added to it.

220, is that an indoor panel and a regular raised cover installed outside? I can't tell. It's an odd mix of 3R/non-3R stuff.

I don't think of it most of the times, but when I do, I put one on. Lately I have gotten in the habit of handing out a biz card and a magnet on every estimating visit. e/m

This is actually inside a garage but there were/are PLENTY of them installed outside here in AZ until the late 60's. I guess they figured that 7" of rain a year wouldn't do any damage :)

This was certainly an odd mix :)

Good advertising for a potental competitor.New code does not allow terminating ground and neutral under same lug terminal.

Case in point. "Mr Electric" & "Mr Sparky" and others brand every panel no matter how nasty the work looks. Why would they do this? They are not trying to impress other electricians (contractors) they are trying to get future business from home and business owners that really don't care if the panel looks like a bowl of spagheti. Sooner or later Mr. Electric may get to relpace that mess just because they have a company sticker on the panel.

Name recognition is the most important part of advertising. The company name is on the panel and will be at the front of the electrical section in the phone book ( large add ). All the customer will see is a bunch of old equipment that has been serviced by MR. Electric. Mr. Electric is still in business so who better to service it next time.

You can impress your fellow electricians and contractors all day long and still not make a dollar. The people that you are looking for as a service contractor are not capable of doing their own work, know nothing about electrical and are normally only concerned with keeping the lights on so they can run their own business ( and make money). I know where there are plenty of electrical messes just like those pictures and the business owners could care less so long as the business stays open and the lights don't flicker. ;)

Same here, though I will admit that when we started using prefabbed panel schedule "outlines" with the company name and info on it.

Of course I understand the POINT of stickering panels but I make plenty of money and personally don't want my name on that kind of thing....ever.

I rarely sticker electrical installations.

What I do is leave a laminated branch circuit directory that includes a time / date stamp and my contact info, when I've done an upgrade or a new install.

Every time I do a service call, and see another company's sticker on the panel, I wonder (to myself) why they called me instead.

I try to answer that question with my work. :)

O.O.B., no longer do service calls, can't get to it etc...when someone is standing in front of a panel and they are thinking they need to call an electrician I want my phone # right in front of them.

A sticker is probably the better choice. Not too many people find themselves needing an electrician for a handy refrigerator magnet to be a cost effective marketing tool. Magnets are for pizza delivery.

Some plumbers get their ball valve handles printed with their company name & phone.

Maybe electricians should get wall plates with laser-etched Logos?

I just use a sharpie and write "Hack Electric was here." ;)

All kidding aside, I've never really seen the value in the stickers. Every time I come across the stickers, the guy who put the sticker on is long gone/out of business/dead/known hacker. There are exceptions of course, but generally speaking i don't see much value in them.

if stickers on panels is the only advertising you do then it has little value but if it is a part of a larger advertising plan then it does not make sense it makes dollars.I cannot understand why anyone would pass up the chance to advertise for a very small cost.
