ive gotten into an argument with a coworker about sizing the EGC. we have a pipe containing a single phase 208 volt 30 amp circuit and a 120 volt 20a circuit and he kept telling me you only needed a 12 guage EGC. article 250.122 (C) states that you need to size the EGC according to the size of the larger size OCPD conductors so iwanted him to run a #10. he kept saying its somewhere in the code but didnt remember where.

i think he's nuts. you are right. the egc needs to be sized according to the other conductors

Look at 250.122(C).

Look at 250.122(C).

thats what i did and shown him but he thinks theres exceptions or whatever somewhere deep within the code

Oops, I see that you did post that Article, sorry. Tell him he's wrong, there is nothing "buried" deep in the code book.

What he "thinks" and what he "knows" seem to be like a set of railraod tracks....always together, but never meeting.

Ask him to prove what he thinks...then you will both know (that you are correct  )
