LED Exit lights

We installed LED Exit lights in a commercial building and received a call from the owner 3 months later stating half of the exit light were out. I check the installation of all the lights and found nothing wrong. I call the manufacture and they didn't have a bad batch of exit light but thought it might be related to the exit light not having enough air circulation.

Have you ever experience this before?

Air circulation in a controlled commercial air environment? Sounds bogus to me.

Are they mounted low enough to have been physically damaged? I did hotel maintenance for a while and ran across a similar problem. Turns out kids were running by, smacking them as they passed. Most had obvious damage on the outside, but some did not and those also did not work.

Perhaps they are fed from a switched circuit and are running on battery power after closing? Led exit signs can also be difficult to recognize as lit. While standing at floor level its difficult to determine if the sign is lit, unless the room is dark.
