NICET CPD's

I am curious if any one here has a NICET certifications? I was reading through on maintaining the certification and it seems a little vague in so area's.
Is there an approved list of professional society's? Also if NICET "will not pre-approve training efforts" then how do you know if you are wasting your time or not? Also how do you prove your a member of a society or that you attended a meeting? Seems like someone could make up a lot of this information with no proof.
