A property I maintain has lost 4 or 5 timers in the last few weeks. Is there a method of installing lightning protection ? Need to protect a couple of acres or heads, valves and solenoids.

I've never seen anything work well, Lightning protection helps on the clubhouse if its situated right but on its still just too much flat exposed area to cover. One course I did work for had to replace about 1-2 satellites a year and a dozen heads or so. My father had a tree on his property get hit, it tracked down the tree into the earth, picked up the underground poly pipe made it to the valves and blew out everything on the same circuit as the time clock. If They're not using remote station maybe fiber optics between controllers would slow it down

twisteddough:

Can you provide information on what the timers are and how they function.

Are these all solid state including the switch (relay) that controls the motor?
What is the input power to the timer?
Is there a small output switch in the timer that controls an electro-mechanical motor starter?
What fails in the timer?
Is the timer simply a duty cycle device? How many minutes on and off?
Is the timer motor driven with an adjustable cam and Microswitch?
