110.26 (F) and industrial control panels

I'm working on a project where we have numerous industrial control panels, containing items such as process instrumentation and PLC's. These controls panels are located in indoor areas with very little headroom and of course, the electrical system also fights for space with HVAC ducts and piping. My question pertains to whether or not 110.26(F) applies to the overhead space above these industrial control panels, or is the reading more narrowing applied only to "switchboards, panelboards, distribution boards, and motor control centers". Look forward to reading your comments.

110.26(F) does not say "and similar areas" so IMHO,that section only applys to, switchboards, panelboards, distribution boards, and motor control centers.

what is the definition of a distribution board? Does it differ from a power panelboard?

The issue here is what kind of equipment you have and the voltages in the panels. If you have VFDs and power feeds going through and in your cabinets/panels/MCCs, then the space requirements apply. Other than that, if you have just control wiring and PLCs w/o equipment disconnects, breakers, contactors, etc., then the working space requirements of 110.26 are not applicable.

As to your specific question, distribution boards and panel boards are both boards with busbars and breakers.

Don't you mean Dedicated Equipment Space ? Not Working Clearance.
