Can you believe this place never caught on fire?
There was insulation, paper and starofoam all over it.
As you can see, some K&T been cut off,or chewed off by rodents. All this buried under insulation and plus.

My first impression is that this isn't original wiring. Your job should be made easier for that fact It certainly looks like balloon framing from these pics, so that should help too. Just make sure you wear a mask in that attic. The dust from those droppings can be really hard on the lungs.

That looks like typical Church (as in St. John's Church, as in Patrick Henry's famous speech) Hill house wiring to me.
