Does 12/2 or 12/3 UF in conduit meet the requirements for wiring methods per 680.21 (A)(1)?

Or must there be a seperate THHW 12 awg grnd conductor?

Thank you.

IMO, the UF would not normally meet the requirements of (1), but if you meet those of (4), the EGC in the UF should be ok.

Why do say the UF would not meet the requirements of 680.21(A)(1)?

(4) does not apply here, I am running the motor line from a detached garage to an above the ground pool 25' from the garage.

The last sentance of (1) requires "an insulated copper" EGC. The sheath of UF isn't insulation, but UF is allowed to be made with an insulated EGC: 340.108. You just have to find that type. :)

Thank you volta.
I was not sure about the ground in the UF being insulated.

Oh well, looks like we will be "re-doing" a little work tomorrow.

I had run 12/3 to box on a post for the general use recept at a pool.
Then came out of that box with a 12/2 line for the pool filter feed.

Pool filter needs a 15 amp twist lock recept.

The job was flagged since the pool filter recept was not feed via conduit. I was thinking of simply putting the conduit on the sweep 90s where the UF now lays in the trench from post to post to garage. But I will need to run a seperate line for the filter recept from the garage to the pump.

Yea bull dog me too.

Not making any money re-doing stuff.

Have to make sure we don't do that again!!!

We have only done 6 pools or so over the years...but I just did not check the code book when we did this one.

Looked good....but it was wrong!

I agree...doing work over stinks. But the sense of accomplishment TWICE is good for ya...lol
