I have been questioned by one of our EH&S specialists -- If you are wearing a full face arc rated face shield why do you still need safety glasses underneath?

My Answer: The face shield will protect you from the UV rays and the heat of the blast and the safety glasses offer one more layer of protection.

Any other additions?

Thanks,

Jim

Check 70E Table 130.7(C)(10). They are required. The face shield protects the face from physical damage and the eyes from UV and IR, the safety glasses protect the eyes from physical damage.

I have a question for you zog, are 'arc flash rated glasses' required under the faceshield or hood?? or can just regular safety glasses be used.

Never heard of arc flash rated glasses, I don't think an ASTM standard even exists for that. Glasses just need to be ANSI Z87, and non-conductive (OR tethered).
