Utility vs. ladder racks

There are two ways to look at the size of the transit - by size it's smaller than a normal van, but by weight rating, it's rated for 1600 lbs of cargo which puts it in the 3/4 ton truck class. With careful planning I'll get everything into that I need on a daily basis and with the right cargo/ladder rack system, I'll get pipe on top as well. The E series vans I've used can't fit conduit inside either with a bulkhead unless you open the bulkhead door, so it's no big deal. One guy I know has all wood shelving made custom for his E-series vans with no bulkhead to make carrying conduit easier which is craziness if you've ever looked at photos of a van after a collision or crash testing - not to mention he's overweight and sagging on all his 3/4 ton trucks...

Aside from the pros and cons of the transit, does anyone have any more thoughts on ladder vs. utility rack?
