Infinity's pic is right on the money, thanks for the visual. In my post I did say screw but I was referring to the lug I had already mentioned. I brought this up because I envisioned myself doing this install and thought that threading 30' + of solid #8 through that little lug would be a pain.

Rob, I fully understand and I certainly don't want to start a P******* contest. All I'm saying is that when you remove the wire (left pic) from the lug and hold it in your hand you have ONE conductor.
It makes it an arguable point in my mind and I personally would discourage such use, but I'd be reluctant to actually reject a job over it.

No contest intended. :)

Just wondering how the bent around conductor complies with the listing of the lug.
