Cold water ground

I have a building that has PVC for the supply waterline coming into the building, the panel is located in a mechanical room 5ft away from the hot water heater, everything from that point is Galvanized piping is it ok to ground the cold waterline at that point from the panel.

Realize that your are simply bonding the water piping and it is not part of your Grounding Electrode System.

Bonding the H2O pipe to the panel is acceptable but the galvy pipe can not be considered as the GEC tapping for bonds to the SE ground electrode system. IRC [E3508.1.1]. rbj
