In reg. to nuheat system: floor heats but GFCI comes on occasionally. What might be the cause. Any simple solution for that?

Nyle Watt:

You have to be far more specific.

What do you mean by "--- GFCI comes on occasionally ---"? Do you mean it occasionally trips? If so, then is the tripping associated with power applied to the heater, or turned off, or both, or at totally random times uncorrelated with the on-off cycle of the heater?

What is the nominal supply voltage for your area? The load current of the heater?

Model, manufacturer, and date of manufacture of the GFCI?

What are some likely ways in this installation for leakage current to occur from the heater (all of the load on the GFCI)?

Describe what is a Nuheat system?

Any other information that might correlate with the problem?

My 1st reaction would be moisture somewhere in the system beyond the GFCI.
The fact that it does not trip instantly when the power is applied tells me it is not incorrect wiring or a defective GFCI.
It takes only 5 milliamps leakage from hot to gnd for them to trip. Remember a GFCI is designed to protect people so it is very sensitive to stray gnd currents. GF protection on switchgear protects equipment from damage and is a lot less sensitive.
Check for moisture on wire terminals and components or cracks in insulation.
