I have been installing Cutler Hammer CHSP ultra series power, cable & telco home surge protectors.
I am not that impressed with Cutler Hammer surge protectors.

what does Evey one else use for complete home protection at the main service?

I mostly use the following type of TVSS in projects for protections.

they are legrand and ABB company

Type I: Main AC power entrance protection
The type I TVSS is designed to protect commercial
and industrial facilities from the damaging affects of
lightning. Power cables carry the damaging current into
facilities. The device shunts these damaging currents
safely to earth ground.
Type II: Distribution power ? Panel protection
The type II TVSS is designed to protect all standard
power Sub-distribution panel from damaging power line
transients.
Type III: Branch circuit and equipment protection
Telecom / Data line protector:
Protection of equipment connected onto telephone lines,
computer, communication or data links, and current
loops.

I use the same.
Why don't you like them?

I have a couple of issues with the teleco surge protectors craping out and killing the phone line. and not from surges. as the cable and power were all connected to each other.

According to cuttlert hammers web site these Can be installed outside under/ next to the panel etc.

I had 1 recently where the phone line went dead and Qwest our local telco disconnected it. they told the customer the surge was wet and shorting out the line.
I have to replace the module under warranty and this is labor and travel lost out of my pocket.

We install them all the time.
I was just at the regional CH office today as a matter of fact, and picked up new brocures on the surge protection line.

What do you mean the cable and power were all connected together?

Were all of the problems with the Telco modules on QWEST lines?

It seems odd to have numerous phone modules go bad.

Also,
are these being installed on a FiOS line?

That's bonded. I thought you were talking about something else.

What are you doing with the green bond wire that comes with them?

Anyway, I've never had an issue with them.
I have them on my own service as well.

But, I can tell you that the FiOS system does not work well with these. But you say these are just phone lines.

And wait, where did you see that these can be installed OUTSIDE? I mean, did you install it in a CHSP3RTELCABLE Raintight enclosure??

I did install them outdoors. Maybe I misread the installation instructions But I seem to recall there was nothing about having to mount the telco and cable in a 3 r box or mount indoors

You must have mis-read it.

For the Phone/coax modules it says:
"All products below offer a limited lifetime warranty and are suitable for Indoor cable or phone applications when properly installed".

If you just mounted these outside on their own, not in the 3R box I listed earlier, I could see the potential for a problem.
