Quick ? Would service entrance conductors at a single family dwelling that travel 4' in rigid pvc across a interior basement wall require a diconnect means on the building exterior? FWIW its a job in Michigan, we work under the Michigan Residential Code and this has always been a grey area as far as interpretation. FWIW, physical limitations don't allow for the conductors to run on the exterior, nor do they allow for the panel to placed directly at the point of entrance.

The NEC requires a disconnecting means, and says it has to be "closest to the point of entry," but it does not give us a distance limit. Washington state has set a limit of 15 feet. Other states have their own limits. I don't know what distance limit Michigan imposes, if any.

Here it is "at the point of entrance" and it has to be on the exterior of the building.

IMO 4' within the building exceeds the requirement, but as Charlie said it's open to local interpretation. You could always encase it in 2" of concrete.
