I was reading through 700.9 b5
Wiring from an emergency, legally, standby:

a) From seperatre vertical switchboard sections with or without a common bus, or from individual disconnecsts mounted in separate enclosure

b) The common bus or separate sections of the switchboard or the individual enclosures shall be permitted to be supplied by single or multiple feeders without OCPD at the source

c) Legally required and optional standby circuits shall not originate from the same vertical section, panelboard enclosure, or individual disconnect switches as emergency circuits.

My question is I am installing a new generator that will switch the entire building. So can I use a regular panelboard and still satisfy those requirements listed above. I can't really seperate ckts out because the building is existing. The emergency lighting utilizes battery packs.

I have specified 4 new generators in existing building in the past month. As long as it is a standby generator, u can simply intercept the main feeder into the switchgear and re-route it through a transfer switch.
