I have a 5 hp motor single phase that has no indication of thermal protection on the name plate . Do I assume that the motor is not thermally protected?

If there is no indication that the motor has integral thermal protection then I would assume that none is provided.

I don't think I have ever seen any motor larger than 1HP with integral protection, I would assume yours doesn't either.

You can get 5HP 1 phase motors with a thermal OL device built-in to the conduit box, but it would be obvious when you go to hook it up. It's not buried in the motor housing like it is on smaller motors.
