I have some distribution that is being run overhead on poles. It is a desing build and my engineer( who is not here now) specified 4/0 Al cable to be run free air. Can that be run exposed/free air overhead? Thanks.

Most 'utility' conductors are aluminum, and they usually contain some type of internal support (i.e. a steel core or or bundled with a steel messenger wire).

THanks Jim. But I was not sure that the 4c Al cable could be run free air. I guess it has to be a special "weatherproof" cable.
