I am working on project for school. I have a 40 x65 crane bay that needs lighting. How do I know which type of occupancy do I use from table 220.12? Also I am so lost on VA. I want to use t5 high bay fixtures with ten 54w lamps on 120v, but I have no clue how to find the VA ratings for that fixture? Please help. need asap. Here is the fixture spec sheet I want to use, http://www.acuitybrandslighting.com/library/LL/documents/SpecSheets/FGB-HL-T5HO.pdf . Thanks, Jason

Fixture VA is not in most Lithonia cut sheets. Three options that may work:
1. Download the photometric file for the fixture you plan to use. This may or may not be available.
2. Download ComCheck from www.energycodes.gov. There are default values for many fixture types and lamp counts. I do not have ComCheck on this computer so I don't know if they have a default value for ten 54W lamps.
3. If you can verify the number of ballasts you can go to a ballast manufacturer's site and get ballast wattages. My guess is that a 10 lamp fixture will have five two lamp ballasts, but you'll need to verify that.

Good luck with your assignment.

Generally most ballast manufactures use 59va per T-5 lamp as a basses to go from, so 10 lamps, would be 590VA would = 4.92 amps on a 120 volt circuit.

You can find specs for lithonia's input power under "Lamp and ballast data" here:

10 T5HO lamps is a lot. I didn't even realize they made a fixture with that many lamps.

You must have a really tall ceiling to need that many lamps. I've seen 40-50 ft tall buildings that had a single 6 lamp fixture in each bay, with a bay probably being at least 20x20.
