Do tables 310.16, 310.17, ... regarding current/wire size apply to AC and DC current? Is it permissable to use standard 20 amp AC circuit breakers for DC as well?

Wire, yes I think so; breakers, no as far as I know.

You have to look at the manufactures ratings as far as using a standard breaker on DC. For example most Square D QO breakers can be used on 48 vdc systems.
