Hi,
We used to have a old compressor. it never had any starter combination kit in it. we replaced with a new air compressor which got all the controls within the compressor. The starter kit for the old compressor was in the MCC cabinet. Our contractor disconnected the old air compressor and just fed the new air compressor. I know we cannot do that. Is there any danger by powering the feeder breaker from a contactor? Why NEC wont allow this?

Thank you,
Jagadeesh

I agree with I-wire, in general terms, no problems.
Contactors are used for all sorts of loads. The one in the MCC is possibly not needed unless you are switching with it.
Depending on comparative amperages, your OL relay may present a problem.
