okay. i have just aquired a job that is a doctors office. my question here is about patient care areas. would the reception area qualify as patient care area when one of the exam rooms is located immediately behind it? i know that the hall ways qualify as patient care areas but am unsure about the reception area. give me a break okay... i have not done a hospital or doctors office in 11 years...lol

Section 517.2 Definitions, 2011 NEC:

Patient Care Area, Informational Note: Business offices, corridors, lounges, day rooms, dining rooms, or similar areas are not classified as patient care areas.

Section 517.10(B) NOT COVERED, 2011 NEC:

(1) Business offices, corridors, waiting rooms, and the like in clinics, medical and dental offices, and outpatient facilities.

In short, if the room or area is NOT being used to examine or treat the patient, it is NOT a patient care area.
