I am installing a switch and new light to existing light which is already powered at light box. I have 120V at light and ran a new 14-2 wire to new switch. How do I back feed new light. Existing light has a switch on light to turn on and off.

See if I understand; You have power in the cieling, single pole wall switch; &

want to control other fixtures. At the switch black on one terminal & white on

other terminal. At cieling white that goes to switch ties to power & stuff in

back of box. Black from switch ties to fixture. White on fixture goes to white

that is in same romex as your power. Other fixture just tie in to black & white

at your fixture. Good Luck If you have a pull chain on your fixture I would make

sure fixture is on then cut the chain. Remember to turn off the breaker.

if your following the 2011 code then you need a neutral as well at your switch, ud have to run a 3 wire to your switch from your light, black and red for feed and switch leg and white for neutral, if not used on the switch then simply cap it off

rossjerry5, How did the job go ? Did it work ?

Dg01501, correct you are. But for rossjerry5's situation the explanation was

satisfactory. I think this is in his own home.

If it is a conduit installation no neutral is required as it can be added at a later

date.
