recessed can in soffit ceiling

soffit ceiling is 2.5" deep, compact fluorescent can light can accommodate 3/4" deep gyp. ceiling,
can we do something so the light will fit into this soffit ceiling? Do they make the light housing come
with adapter or kits that can make it fit with any ceiling depth?

Why is the ceiling so deep?

I think you can find some can lights that say "for plaster ceilings" that will accomodate that depth.

I don't know any that will work in 2.5". Is this retro work or new construction?

You can install recessed LV hockey-pucks. That's the only option I can think of.

Take a look at the new 3" dia lights in a remodel. There may not be a FL but a LED might be avail.
