minumum size for conductors

Is there a minimum size for conductors? Seems to me I saw something about 18 awg or 16 awg.

I'm talking about garden variety 120 vac start / stop stations and limit switches stuff like that... the whole deal is on a 6 amp fuse. ... not class 2 circuits or anything like that.

It depends on what it is used for. In general 14 awg is the minimum. T. 310.5 however other areas of the code permit 18 awg. T. 310.16 goes as low as 18 awg

Start/stop controls are very likely Article 725 remote control circuits. 725.49(A) permits the use of #16 and 18 conductors for Class I control circuits.
