I am a licensed electrical contractor, holding a license in La and Tx. We do res, com, and industrial.
In my res side of work we are getting more into home automation, lighting control, home audio, and cameras. I had someone tell me i needed a low voltage lic to do cameras. (Not sure if this is evan true). We are in La, does anyone have any suggestions on the best way for a electrical contractor to get certified to do cameras?
Thanks in advance, this site is great!

I would check with the licensing board in your state, I know in NC I would need a special liceanse to do security but I never heard about camera and home automation. Seems like your electrical lixcense would cover home automation.

Certain manufacturers like Lutron will only allowed certifed people to install their Homeworks system. I cannot even buy the switches unless I have a Homeworks certification -- I believe gotten thru them.

Usually cameras fall under security and at least here in NY you need a state security license. It's a separate license from electrical.

I don't know where home automation falls. Would depend on your state again.
