I know that a whirlpool switch cant be more than five feet from the whirlpool. Can't find the code section that explains this. Any help would be great.

Just for clarification, what do you mean by Whirlpool? Are you referring to a hydromassage tub?

Hydromassage tubs are covered in Part VII-Hydromassage Bathtubs of Article 680. Take a look at 680.72.

That is not true. The switch isn't even necessary as long as there is the air switch on the tub.

You may be thinking about hot tubs where the emergence switch must be placed near the tub but that is for single family dwelling. 680.41

The disconnect for servicing must be no closer than 5'. 680.12

680.12 is specific to the pool, hot tub or spa. I believe this is as far as you need to search. 680.41 applies only to an emergency switch in a commercial application but not in a single family residence.
